NerdPress Welcomes “Optimize Database” Plugin to Our Family

A broom with blue bristles, sweeping up a huge pile of lint.

I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! We’ve adopted the Optimize Database After Deleting Revisions plugin, a vital tool for WordPress site efficiency, which is installed on over 80,000 sites worldwide.

This plugin is a cornerstone for maintaining a lean and efficient WordPress database. It excels in reducing excessive revisions and other unnecessary data, thus enhancing website performance. It’s a tool we’ve long relied on — installing it on all our clients’ sites — and its value has been clearly reflected in the response from the WordPress community. Less than a day after releasing our first update (patching minor security vulnerabilities), the plugin has already been downloaded nearly 23,000 times.

In the support forums, @uninvolved summed up the community sentiment perfectly: “Welcome back! Your plugin was sorely missed.” This kind of feedback is exactly why we decided to jump in.

The journey to this acquisition began after it was closed in late 2023. Recognizing its importance, we reached out to the original developer to see if we could assist with addressing the issues and getting the plugin reactivated. This collaboration organically evolved into us taking over the plugin’s future support and development.

What excites us most about this plugin isn’t just its functionality but its alignment with our core mission at NerdPress: To help people do what they love so they can lead richer, more fulfilling lives. Optimizing a website database may not appear to be directly related to that (or all that “sexy,” let’s be honest), but it’s these seemingly small details that collectively add up to having a faster, trouble-free website.

Looking Ahead

Twenty Twenty-Four has certainly started off with a bang! This is our second acquisition in as many months, having just acquired Hubbub Pro in December.

Although we weren’t seeking another acquisition so soon, we are always looking for new ways to contribute more to the WordPress community. Looking after this plugin is a great opportunity to do just that. And, the fact that we were able to do so when the need arose is a testament to our fantastic team and their enthusiasm for supporting our clients and the entire WordPress community. I’d also like to thank Jon Christopher and Justin Ferriman for their help and guidance with this project.

To all the current (and future!) users of the plugin, rest assured that we’re committed to improving and supporting this essential tool for the long term. And to our NerdPress clients, this is another step towards ensuring we provide you with the most reliable and innovative WordPress solutions now and in the future.

Stay tuned for more exciting updates and enhancements!

  2. Congrats. And hope you avoid the temptation to alienate your user base with changes like what happens to many other acquired plugins. Best wishes
